Eligibility Requirements

Apply to take the Refrigeration Contractor’s Exam

In the State of North Carolina, all persons, firms or corporations engaged in the installation, maintenance, servicing and repairing of refrigerating machinery, equipment, devices and components are required to hold an active Refrigeration Contractor License.

In order to be eligible to take the examination, you must:

  1. Submit an application to the board, with the non-refundable examination-license fee.
  2. Verify that you have acquired at least 4000 hours of relevant experience.

Qualifying experience shall be acquired while working under the supervision of a person who holds a valid refrigeration contractor’s license, who is a registered professional engineer or who has equivalent industry experience.

Up to one-half of the experience may be in academic or technical training directly related to the field.
